Every year, we talk to hundreds of participants in our programs and in our coaching practices that want to know how to become a better leader. Our answer is the same – “Work on the 3 C’s of Leadership: competence, character, and consciousness.” In a world ripe with adaptive challenges, it’s not enough to just be competent. “Those are table stakes,” as our CEO says.
Character – described as who you are when everyone is watching and no one is watching – is about authentic leadership that is values aligned. And leading in alignment with your values offers an infinite source of energy, which is priceless in today’s largely burned-out climate.
Consciousness, the last of the 3 C’s, is the differentiator. Consciousness is being awake and aware of your internal state and your external context. It’s what allows you to see your blind spots, to operate from a level of systems awareness, and to navigate the complexity that greets you at every turn.
At pLink Leadership, our work in building competence, character, and consciousness correlates with better outcomes in every area of life and business.
CXO
Our programs address competence (honing leadership skills), character (leading with authenticity), and consciousness (raising your self- and systems-awareness).
Executive Coach Ranieka Weston facilitated our Leader as Coach program in Orlando FL last week. By bringing coaching language and skills to leaders, this program supports them in building trust across teams and developing their direct reports. After completing this course, leaders report shifting their thinking from the value they personally create to the value they can create through others. It’s a game-changer.
