Join pLink Leadership for this interactive program based upon the research of Dr. Brené Brown and designed to build courageous cultures and engaged workplaces… in a big way.

Why Dare to Lead™?

Based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown, Dare to Lead™ is an evidence-based program designed to engage leaders in real conversations about building courageous cultures and supporting courageous leadership. Dare to Lead constructively challenges long-held beliefs and cultural norms to demonstrate that courage is a skill set that can be taught, observed, and measured.

Why pLink Leadership?

We are passionate about this curriculum because it’s a true game-changer. In the words of one of our participants, “I finally have the ‘how’ to improve.”

Since its introduction in 2019, we have trained over 1,800 people in Dare to Lead across a wide variety of industries that include banking, big tech, automobile, accounting, gas and oil, life sciences, pharmaceuticals, as well as in the military and education sectors. We are skilled in bringing the content to life through story and inquiry and are familiar with the experience of challenging beliefs and long-standing cultural norms inside of organizations and institutions.

Participants who complete the Certified Dare to Lead Trained program report:

  • An understanding of the importance of emotional literacy, emotional intelligence, and empathy, in general and specific to leadership effectiveness.
  • Improved willingness, and skill, to engage in difficult conversations.
  • Increased self-awareness, e.g., “who I am at my best,” “what triggers me,” “how my values influence the way I experience the world and how I am with other people.”
  • A lived experience of psychological safety and the high caliber discussions it facilitates.
  • Identification of blind spots (“things I didn’t realize were important for my direct reports”).
  • Tangible tools for building trust, and for understanding what happened and how to repair it when trust is broken.
  • Practice at turning self-reflection into useful change.

I was surprised how just 3 days of training taught me so much about myself! I became aware of how my armor held me back as a leader. I am now more comfortable initiating brave conversations.

As a woman in a man’s career x 2 (military and law enforcement), we get so used to putting on armor that it becomes instinctual. We can’t show weakness. I learned so much about myself by digging deep and doing some tough introspection…the effort was so valuable. I’m a more resilient, courageous, empathetic, and curious human than I was before DTL. My husband, friends, and colleagues have noticed this positive change.

The Dare to Lead course provided the opportunity to grapple with how fear of vulnerability prevents authentic leadership. I’ve been able to use the lessons to be a more confident and effective leader while also bringing my whole self to the workplace.

I loved the practice/mock sessions on each topic where we were forced to crawl out of our comfort zone in conversations as both a listener and a speaker. Being vulnerable really helped on both ends.

Dare to Lead™ is delivered in-person as well as virtually

2020 challenged us to design a virtual Dare to Lead experience that was just as powerful as the in-person program. We rose to the challenge and discovered some surprising benefits to the virtual experience – we are now proponents of both!

Dare to Lead is flexible – pricing and schedule depend on what you want to accomplish, over how much time, and how many people you want to impact.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who should attend a Dare to Lead training?

One of the incredible things about this curriculum and our skilled facilitators is that the content will meet you where you are. pLink Leadership has delivered Dare to Lead™ to profound effect with corporate executives, active-duty military and spouses, teachers, clergy, and nonprofit leaders. If you want to show up with more courage in your life and work, this course is for you.

What does Certified "Dare to Lead Trained" mean?

Upon completing the full training, you will receive a Certified Dare to Lead™ Trained certificate and LinkedIn badge. While this course will not certify you to certify others, you can use your personal experience and knowledge gained in class, as well as any of the publicly available content (see: https://daretolead.brenebrown.com).

What is the Daring Teams Rollout?

Available only to Certified Dare to Lead™ Trained graduates, Daring Teams is a 7-part series designed to support leaders in rolling out the concepts of Dare to Lead™ to their organization.

I am a coach; can I use this content with my clients?

Yes, absolutely! Although this course will not certify you to certify others, the course will deepen your understanding and build skills around vulnerability, empathy, shame, values, trust, difficult conversations (a.k.a. rumbling), and resilience (a.k.a. learning to rise). You can use your personal experience and knowledge gained in class, as well as any of the publicly available content (see: https://daretolead.brenebrown.com), with your clients. Through the personal reflections and the engaging exercises, you will incorporate the content “in your bones” and be better able to model courageously authentic leadership for your clients.

How will this course change the way I show up as a leader?

Courage-building skills give you just what you’d expect—more courage. Here are 5 specific examples of the impacts pLink Leadership graduates reported after taking this course:

  1. success initiating difficult conversations they had avoided for years;
  2. showing up in a more connected and productive way as a parent and partner;
  3. gaining awareness around unproductive behaviors at work and committing to owning their part and changing their behavior;
  4. setting boundaries to build trust and avoid resentment; and
  5. a reduction in work-related stress due to the new concept of generous assumptions—one participant’s resting heart rate went from an average of 70 to 58 bpm!
What content is in the curriculum?

We’ll be exploring the four courage-building practices that support daring leadership. You can learn more here: https://brenebrown.com/hubs/dare-to-lead/

  • Rumbling with Vulnerability: Facing risk, uncertainty, and emotional exposure with courage and clarity.
  • Living into Our Values: Identifying, operationalizing, and practicing the beliefs that we hold most important.
  • BRAVING Trust: Creating or deepening connections in relationships and teams, based on the 7 elements of trust.
  • Learning to Rise: Learning and growing from the failures, setbacks, and disappointments that are inevitable when we are brave with our lives.
Is it okay to leave class for a period of time if I have a conflict?

The short answer is no. Technically, of course, you can leave; however, there are two reasons why we strongly encourage you to not do so:

  1. After completing the full curriculum, you will be certified as Dare to Lead™ Trained. We cannot certify anyone who misses portions of the curriculum.
  2. Due to the fact that the training builds upon itself, it is imperative for your own development and for the experience of your colleagues that you commit to attending the entire training without stepping out to take calls or attend meetings.
What should I do to prepare?

Prerequisite knowledge is not necessary for this course. That said, the material may land at a deeper level if you can expose yourself to some of the concepts in advance of the training. Repetition helps the brain file information into long-term memory. Here are some options:

Who is Brené Brown?

In her own words: “I’m a research professor at the University of Houston, where I hold the Huffington Foundation Endowed Chair. I am also a visiting professor in management at the University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business. I’ve spent the past two decades studying courage, vulnerability, shame, and empathy. I’m the author of six #1 New York Times best sellers, and I’m the host of the weekly Spotify original podcasts Unlocking Us and Dare to Lead.” For more about Brené, visit her About page.

We are a team of executive coaches, design wizards, writers, editors, and ops people who bring it all together to make others beyond better. We do the work we do because we believe that positive leaders are a multiplier effect and that, by fusing the sciences of human nature with the discipline of leadership, we can accelerate positive change in a big way.

We know from experience that positive leadership is not rainbows and unicorns. It takes courageous curiosity, a high tolerance for vulnerability, self-awareness, perspective, and perseverance. Dare to Lead™ is the “how” of deliberately developing brave leaders and courageous cultures.

You can count on us to bring the curriculum to life with stories, to meet skepticism with curiosity, to create a safe space for some of the best leadership conversations you’ve had to date, and to provide a path for applying the concepts in your context.
